Barring a stunning run, Phil Mickelson won’t win his first US Open crown. But he still has his wife in his corner.
Amy Mickelson, 49, was right there with him on Friday at Torrey Pines in San Diego, and the two shared a special moment when Phil spotted his wife in the crowd and she gave him the signature Mickelson thumbs up.
Mickelson has so often used the thumbs up as a sign of approval or in celebration that his thumb has its own unaffiliated Twitter account, “Phil Mickelson’s Thumb
On Saturday, the 51-year-old Mickelson was two over par through eight holes and four over in the tournament.
It left the 2021 PGA Championship winner nine shots behind leader Russell Henley through three rounds at the Open.
The couple wed in 1996 and have three children.
